Warm and Cozy a Christmas Home Tour Series
Welcome to the Christmas Home Tour series hosted by Migonis Home Blog and in partnership with Wayfair. I am honored to be apart of this home tour along with some extremely talented bloggers. So thank you for joining me today!
Every year around November, I start to get anxious and excited for pulling out my Christmas decor. It seems Christmas can never come soon enough. I love everything about the Christmas season. I love putting up the tree and watching traditional Christmas movies. I love putting on a warm fire and drinking mugs of hot chocolate. It’s a time for giving and gathering with family. I love the shopping as crazy as it gets and don’t really mind the traffic while listening to Christmas music. I get enamored by the lights and lawn displays. It is a time to really celebrate traditions. I’m hoping you’ll find a little inspiration from my home tour.
So grab a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and come on in! I am opening my doors wide open for you so WELCOME! I will be sharing several different spaces and how I like to decorate for the Holidays. First off, lets start with my front porch. Fresh garlands and wreaths are the way to go! For the past few years, I have purchased my fresh garlands and wreaths from Costco. Fresh Pine is a classic Christmas scent and now that most people have artificial trees its nice to bring in live Pine with fresh wreaths and garlands. Adding white Christmas lights to them gives off a warm and inviting feel. For the most part, I like to keep my front porch simple, I usually don’t do too much to it. I like to add oversized red ribbons to the garlands and white Christmas lights everywhere. It’s simple yet so beautiful.
The first space you will see when you walk inside is my foyer. Since I do not have a grand entryway I try to keep it simple as well. A mirrored console table, oversized mirror and ottoman is really all I have room for. I hung my artificial flocked wreath from Wayfair on the oversized mirror, added two Nutcrackers (I have a slight obsession with Nutcrackers lol), a chrome lamp and this oversized mystic square ottoman. Notice below, I styled it two different ways and they both look great.
Directly across my foyer, you’ll notice my living room on the left and my formal dining room on the right. I really do not use this space very often (Yes! I do have a “look at only” room 😉 For me Christmas starts with the Tree. It is the focal point of both my living room and family room. Every year we start off the holiday the same way, with listening to John Legend and decorating the trees. I have 2 flocked 7.5 foot Christmas trees. I bought one pre flocked and the second (as seen in this picture) I flocked myself (Or shall I say my husband) using Sno Bond Flocking Powder . It was easier than I thought and I was able to cover my entire tree, 2 wreaths and 1 garland with the 5 pound bag. I change the theme of my tree every year (last year it was blue and silver). This year I went with gold and pewter colors. A great tip for keeping your costs down and being able to change your themes is to buy your ornaments after Christmas each year. I scored on some gorgeous mercury glass ornaments from Restoration Hardware last year and cleaned up at Pottery Barn. I paid a fraction for what I would have paid if I tried to change my theme during the season. I also found some great deals at Hobby Lobby when they have their 50% off Christmas Sale.
Here’s a close up of my Living Room. First off, isn’t that painting on the left hand side just stunning?!?! It’s painted by my uber talented friend Deanna at www.deanndesigns.com. Her artwork is versatile and all her timeless pieces will go well in any space. Deanna is by far one of my favorite artists of all time. (A painting from Deanna would be a great item to put on your Christmas list 😉 Thought I’d share.
I’m not going to lie. I had an extremely difficult time looking for the perfect wrapping paper to go with my Christmas decor this year. Everywhere I went I did not like anything I saw (Yes, you can call me picky)! I really scored big time when I found these beauties at TJMaxx. I bought all the gold and silver wrapping paper I could get my hands on along with the matching ribbons. Also FYI Costco has some beautiful gold ribbons as well. I never like spending too much money on wrapping paper because seeing people ripping through my beautiful wrapped presents, hurts my heart just a little. haha. Here’s another tip! See those beautiful ornaments I use as an embellishment? Found those bad boys at the Dollar Tree! Yup! A dollar for two $. It’s affordable yet it looks pretty right?
I think that every Christmas tree should have their own train set. I bought mine on amazon. It’s the Lionel Polar Express Train and I love how it fits perfectly underneath my tree and how it travels around all of the Christmas presents. Not to mention my boys just love to turn the train on and drive it around the track. I enjoy hearing the sound of the bells and the little steam engine running during this time of year.
Since I really enjoy hosting dinner parties for the Holidays, I think a beautiful table scape is extremely important. If you have been following me for a while now, you know I love a good table scape. Starting off with a beautiful centerpiece and working my way around that piece is key. I found these two small garlands at Homegoods and decided to connect them together to look like one piece. To glam it up I added battery operated Christmas lights along with matching ornaments. I also hung ornaments from this gorgeous oversized chandelier from www.lightingdesign.com made by Kichler. I think the beaded garland and ornaments make the chandelier look more festive. I always have to add a little glam to everything I touch.
Lets take a trip towards the back of my house to my master bedroom. Everyone needs a little winter retreat during the holidays. The bed is the focal point of the room and what color is better than snow-white for Christmas. I used a garland on the foot of the bed and a wreath over the headboard to pop some Christmas flare. Do you spy the amazing angel painting on my wall? My favorite artist Deanna released a new collection called “Things with Wings” and I absolutely fell in love with it at first sight. This painting is called “by your side” and it is the perfect piece to go in my master suite. I seriously feel like I have a guardian angel looking over me while I sleep now. Go check out the rest of Deanna’s angels and all her other amazing paintings at www.deanndesigns.com.
Now leaving my bedroom back down the hallway you will see is my kitchen and nook room.
So moving on to the kitchen..Someday (hopefully soon, we will be tearing down that wall between the kitchen and family room to have a more open floor plan). I didn’t decorate the kitchen too much this year. I just added a wreath hanging from the window and incorporated two baby Christmas trees I found at Homegoods. Again keeping it pretty simple. I always feel that my kitchen looks so cluttered, so less is more when it comes to my kitchen. I did add a little coffee/tea station on the kitchen island under my lovely pendant lights from www.lightingdesign.com. It’s a perfect way to entertain my guests when they are over. I’ll usually either have coffee or tea ready and they can sit around the island while utilizing the three-tiered tray (that has all of the condiments available for use). It’s cute and very festive.
The next room to the right is my nook room/dining room. Just like my formal dining room I decided to add garlands across the center of the table. I hung ornaments from the chandelier and added a fresh wreath from Costco. The smell of the fresh pine fills the space. This room is ready for entertainment at any time. My favorite feature of this room is the wainscoting my husband just added. Nice feature right? It’s all in the details that gives a room the “Wow” factor.
Moving on to one of my favorite rooms in the house. My family room. The heart of the home. This is where we spend the most time as a family. It’s also where my boys can make a huge mess and I really don’t care (well kind of). My favorite feature of this room is the vaulted ceiling. My husband built a box for the tree to stand on and to give it more height. The moment you walk into this room you’ll see this oversized tree and think that it’s at least 10 feet tall. But it’s not. It’s only 7.5 feet.
Close up shot of my mantle. I found these beautiful Faux Fur stockings and had to have them. I Love using different initial ornaments on each stockings for our abbreviations.
A cozy throw blanket, comfy pillows, hot chocolate, fresh-baked cookies and an open fire. Makes for the ‘Most wonderful time of the year!’
View from our family room to the kitchen.
I setup a small Christmas Village behind my sectional. I added mini Christmas lights for a Winter Wonderland feel.
******One of favorite things to do on Christmas Eve is to use a burlap sack for Santa’s big gift and place it in front of the fireplace. The boys and I will bake fresh chocolate chip cookies and set a glass of milk out for Santa. I also love using flour to simulate snow tracks for the foot prints trailing out from the fireplace. The boys really think that Santa came down the chimney…it’s the most magical moment watching their facial expressions on Christmas morning. I staged the scene to show you how I layout the scene on Christmas Eve.
